[dropcap]A[/dropcap]lways when I was home back in Greece I enjoyed when my mother was making cakes, sweets and anything that had chocolate. Well, don’t we all… I was hoping that I could manage once to make that chocolate log (kormos sokolatas in greek..)  recipe. To tell you the truth it took me some time to find the appropriate name for that…

Well, the following is a recipe that my mother was doing and a lot of Greek mothers are doing but not really much elsewhere. At least as far as I looked online I couldn’t find similar recipes…

Anyway, I am just writing this recipe as after the Yogurt with Honey it’s my first real effort for a nice desert/sweet and I feel quite satisfied with the result. The only problem that I had was that…well I am a little bit alcoholic and I added two shots of cognac rather than one that the good old mothers recipe was saying…

The result wasn’t bad but ok, I think you should be careful with that.

Ingredients

  • 250 gr vegetable butter
  • 300 gr sugar
  • 200 gr biscuits simple plain
  • 50ml cognac
  • 5 teaspoons of cacao
  • 125 gr dark chocolate
  • Milk

Method

Step 1

Melt the butter and mix the butter with sugar until the sugar melts. Stir well.

Step 2

Add 5 teaspoons of cacao and 1 shot of cognac. If we don’t have cognac any similar alcohol…

Step 3

In the oven we put the dark chocolate and leave it for 5-10 mins until it melts. Then we add it to the mixture and we continue to stir.

Step 4

Most probably by now the mixture will be dark and have that chocolate taste but it will be really dry… we add then a little bit of milk until it become more liquid.

Step 5

In another pot we take the biscuits and we break them in small pieces.

Step 6

When we finish put on the kitchen aluminium foil and on top of it baking paper. We add in the middle the mixture of chocolate and biscuits using our hands we try to shape it as big salami.

Step 7

We cover it on all sides and we put it on the freezer for some hours. When we see that its stable we cut it…and enjoy!

Well I found this cool video on youtube that a couple of Greeks made. It is the similar recipe, they just add an egg and in the end they don’t use baking paper together with aluminium foil. The only problem with that is that it makes it more difficult to cut it after the Chocolate has frozen in the freezer.

Other than that I think it will give you a good idea about the way its done. Enjoy J

    THE. BEST. DESSERT. EVER.

Just make sure you’re not too lavish on the cognac because we ended up a bit tipsy after 2-3 slices…
